Getting started
Miles helps you keep track of your vehicles, mileage, and maintenance. Add a vehicle, log mileage as you go, and the app stays on top of upcoming services with reminders. All your data lives on your device, with optional iCloud sync to keep things consistent across your iPhone and iPad.
Frequently asked questions
How do I add a vehicle?
Tap the + button on the main screen and enter your vehicle’s details. You can type the make and model manually, or use the VIN scanner to fill in the details automatically.
How do maintenance reminders work?
When you add a maintenance record (such as an oil change or tire rotation), Miles uses your vehicle’s typical service intervals to schedule the next reminder. You can adjust intervals on a per-vehicle or per-service basis. Notifications are local to your device — you’ll be alerted when a service is due based on time or mileage, whichever comes first.
How do I use the VIN scanner?
When adding or editing a vehicle, tap the Scan VIN button. Point your camera at the VIN sticker (typically on the driver’s side door jamb or dashboard near the windshield). Miles reads the VIN and looks up the make, model, and year automatically. You can review and adjust the details before saving.
How do I enable iCloud sync?
Miles uses your device’s iCloud account. Make sure you’re signed in to iCloud (Settings → your name → iCloud) and that iCloud Drive is enabled. Then, in Miles, open Settings and toggle iCloud Sync on. Your vehicles, records, and reminders will sync automatically across devices signed in to the same Apple ID.
How do I export a PDF report?
Open a vehicle, tap the Share or Export button, and choose PDF. Miles will generate a report with your maintenance history, mileage log, and upcoming reminders. You can save it to Files, email it, or send it to AirPrint.
Do I need an account to use Miles?
No. Miles does not require an account. There’s nothing to sign up for, no password to remember, and no email to provide. All data lives on your device, with optional sync through your private iCloud.
Troubleshooting
iCloud sync isn’t working
Confirm you’re signed in to iCloud on your device, that iCloud Drive is on, and that you have an active internet connection. If sync still isn’t happening, try toggling iCloud Sync off and on again in Miles’ settings. The first sync after a fresh install can take a few minutes.
The VIN scanner can’t read my VIN
VIN stickers can be hard to read if they’re worn, dirty, or in low light. Try wiping the sticker, improving lighting, and holding the camera steady about 6–8 inches away. If automatic scanning still doesn’t work, you can always type the VIN manually.
My reminders aren’t appearing
Make sure you’ve granted Miles permission to send notifications (Settings → Notifications → Miles). Reminders trigger based on the date or mileage you’ve configured for each service.
I deleted something by accident
Miles stores your data on your device. If you have iCloud sync enabled and the deletion has not yet propagated to your other devices, you may still find the record there. Otherwise, deleted records cannot be recovered. We recommend exporting periodic PDF backups for your records.
